1. Introduction

Food security is not just about availability of food — it also includes access, affordability, nutrition, and sustainability. In India and worldwide, millions still suffer from hunger, malnutrition, food price instability, and loss of livelihoods due to climate change, conflicts, and economic disruptions.

The Food Security Project aims to ensure universal access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food while strengthening community resilience, supporting farmers, and advocating for policies that make food systems sustainable, fair, and inclusive.


2. Objectives

  1. Improve access to safe and nutritious food for vulnerable populations.

  2. Support sustainable agriculture and farmer livelihoods.

  3. Promote awareness on nutrition, food rights, and climate-smart practices.

  4. Reduce food waste and post-harvest losses.

  5. Advocate for stronger policies on food security and social protection.


3. Key Focus Areas

A. Community Access & Nutrition

  1. Community food banks and school meal programs.

  2. Nutritional support for women, children, and elderly.

  3. Awareness campaigns on balanced diet and malnutrition.

B. Sustainable Agriculture & Livelihoods

  1. Training farmers in climate-smart and organic farming.

  2. Support for farmers’ cooperatives and market access.

  3. Promoting water-efficient irrigation and crop diversification.

C. Reducing Food Loss & Waste

  1. Awareness on household and community food waste reduction.

  2. Support for cold storage, supply chain management, and preservation technologies.

  3. Partnerships with restaurants and retailers for surplus food redistribution.

D. Policy & Advocacy

  1. Research and policy briefs on food security challenges.

  2. Advocacy for stronger public distribution systems and social safety nets.

  3. Engagement with policymakers, UN agencies, and food security alliances.


4. Implementation Plan

  1. Phase 1 (0–6 months): Needs assessment, community mobilization, partnerships.

  2. Phase 2 (6–18 months): Launch food support programs, farmer training, awareness campaigns.

  3. Phase 3 (18–24 months): Policy advocacy, sustainability integration, final evaluation.
